We had conducted a career guidance event at No.1 Hostel, Vikarabad on 08th July' 2012. It was a very good experience for us and for students. Students felt very comfortable and got all their questions clarified from us.
The event started post lunch at 2 PM. Rajasekhar started the program with Ice Breaker session to make everyone feel comfortable and bring everyone's attention before the event starts. Then, we had an introduction session where all the students were asked to introduce themselves and their career aspirations.
Most of the students aspire to become Teacher, Police, Lawyer, Judge, Doctor etc. We have spoken few inspirational quotes with examples to grab their attention and inspire them and focus them on their academics. We spoke about the importance of education in the current society and how the educated person is given respect. We gave them a scenario of what happens to them if they don't study. What difference can they make to their parents and family with their little effort in education. Students felt it very useful and few they were interestingly listening to our words.
Then started the actual career guidance session. Raj, Sanath and Kalyan distributed people among themselves and started the sessions on our laptops. Students were posing questions and getting them clarified. everyone paid attention to all the slides and got a good understanding of what to do in-order to pursue their goals. After the session, students came to know about many other professions that exist apart from what they aspire to become. Few of them quickly changed their goal to the newly mentioned professions. We have shown them the path how to reach the goal.
Once the career guidance session is over, we divided all the students into 2 groups and conducted a quiz session to know how much they understood. It was really amazing to see the kind of response and understanding the students had with our session.
Great work by Nirmaan on the material. Later, we distributed the booklets that Raj printed out for the students. Raj walked out to buy a chocolate packet for the quiz winners and we started distributing the chocolates on every correct answer. A couple of students had all their pockets filled with chocolates. later, we distributed all the chocolates among the students and had a round of photo session. That made our one of the most satisfactory day..... at No.1 hostel, Vikarabad.
