It was a good experience for me with this event. I had a thought to participate in such an event since long time, but I couldn't attend due to several reasons. Finally I was able to make it through BSG dedicated team. I would like to thank & congratulate every one.
Coming to the event, we five members reached the school at around 1 PM on last Saturday and explained about our motto, the process & our approach to the Head master and teachers. They showed a lot of interest in the event. The event was started at sharp 2 PM and it went on till 4:30 PM. We were able to execute what ever we planned with in the time frame.
The students involved in this event were from 9th, 10th standards and few from 6th, 7th & 8th standards. Total of around 90 students. We started the event with a small introduction & ice breaker. Students showed a lot of interest. The books from Nirmaan Org. helped us to explain in a smooth way. We didn't use any laptops, simply distributed the books to 10th class students and asked others to share from 10th students. We did explain them all available carrier options and how to attain them as per their individual interest.
And we did observe few interesting things while conducting the event. Might be the reason, they are from very small villages, they not even know what scholarship means. So we did explain them about it too.
Few students from smaller grades were sharper than current 10th grade students. Especially a handicapped student called 'NAGARAJU' showed full attention towards our words and he had a valid answer for every question from us. He cannot walk properly, even cannot talk properly. But he tried to communicate with us as much as possible.
While conducting the event, I did observe few things where we might need attention.While conducting events in this kind of schools, we need to avoid English as much possible as we are not sure whether they know meanings for all the English work that come from us.
I think, instead of Nirmaan booklet, similar booklet with some more information, we could prepare with BSG mark. As our intention/focus is not only career but also awareness of higher studies.We might need to change the way we are explaining them to let the students understand more about education chain.
It may be a good idea to identify & provide scholarship to the students like 'NAGARAJU' with out considering our scholarship process.
