There are no bounds for the joy that you get when you get the fruits for the work that you have been doing. At the outset I wish all of you 63RD Independence Day. On this special day we made it very very special by starting the mentorship program (Project3)
The event started with patriotic song Vandematram, and then everybody took the born to serve oath
“In the name of my nation I dedicate myself to serve the backward communities; we have only one passion the rise of great nation”
After which it was all Vikram’s show. Vikram is the chief guest for the event he is currently Team Lead in Computer Associates, prior to joining CA he worked in US and has an experience of 15 years in the software industry, and is one of the Teacher in taking Art of Living, despite all this he is down to earth person. It was a great privilege to have such an esteemed guest and great human for Kick starting the mentorship program and also to celebrate the Independence Day.
Vikram said that learning starts at a younger age and said that more you work now the more is the benefit that you will see when you grow. He asked them (students) to have a goal set so that the amount of labor will be reduced and said that programs like this will help them to achieve and realize their dreams. The entire speech was spell bound and lively. He had something for everyone.
Hostel Warden Mallapa Sir told the students that Independence was possible because of great freedom fighters who were all well-educated. This shows the need for education. He said that if you all can work hard I have the confidence that there are many IAS, IPS officers among you to serve the country. He said not to forget to do good to the society which has done so much for them.
After the speech, the real test started, talent test to find to encourage students for reaching higher levels and also to get the top five students included in the mentorship program that will be taken up. The test had 40 questions, tailored to suit the classes of 9th and 10th covering science, math and general knowledge. It had 42 questions and students were given 45 minutes time for the multiple choice questions. Best Three students are picked amongst them and were awarded Rs. 500, Rs. 300 and Rs. 200 each. There were 4 students who got 1 mark less than the 3rd prize who were given dictionaries.
While the test was being conducted for 9th and 10th class, Vikram and Satish conducted elocution competition for the class 8th students.
Students sang songs, talked about their interest and passions. Two students were awarded Rs. 200 each for their performance. While Srisailam, Balraj, Yogesh and Satish got busy with paper corrections and Vikram finalized the list of winners for elocution.
Vikram being Art of living Guru wanted students to do “Asanas” (yoga asanas) which will help them improve their concentration and also keep them fit. Students were assembled in the ground and several asanas including surya namaskaram were taught to the students and their benefits also being told to them. They were asked to practice asanas regularly so that they can find the difference.
Then we had lunch with the students. As it was Independence Day there were specials made too.
After lunch students gathered in the ground (the above picture). To encourage the innate talent they were asked to perform any activities that they like, there were scintillating dance performances and good songs from them. Every one enjoyed the day. After which prizes were distributed.
Mentorship program was taken to the students by Chandu (Chandra Sekhar), who explained about a student named jitendar and his ambitions and told them that having a good mentor and a defined goal will get you to higher levels. He asked students if they really needed it and the response was loud and clear that they need it.
As we started with Vandematram we ended up with our national anthem “Janaganama’. There were slogans of Bharat Mata ki Jai which are still echoed in my ears. As a routine we had the photo session with the students.
