This is to let you all know that the event in N0 1 Hostel was a great grand success, with students being very attentive and interactive, they had several questions for our good friends from Nirmaan.
The event consisted of the below activities
• Career counseling
• N.T.S.E. Scholarship filling for 8th class
• One -One for 10th students
Career guidance was taken up by Geeta and team from Nirmaan, it started by asking students as what they wanted to become and then letting the kids know as how to achieve them, their expertise in the counseling is well seen in their approach - where they went to the standard of kid to explain them in detail the intricacies
Thanks to the Nirmaan Team, a special note to mention to Shalini, Geeta, Srinivas, Sagar and Prashanti for making it to the event, Nagesh, Chandu and Mayur for taking this up.
We had made the 8th class students to fill the National Talent Search Test which offers Rs 500 per month to student who qualifies the test, it is for 8th standard students. Alok, who is a new add to the group helped students to fill the application form, I am attaching the link for application form if you see the needy please pass it on.
Jay and Rajsekhar had one-one with 10th students in trying to understand their needs, we have found that they need a tutor for Telugu and English Grammar and Maths. We are looking for a talented degree going student who can teach the students and at the same time be an employment opportunity for him. The below is the detailed report of the "career guidance workshop":

Courtesy: Geeta from Nirmaan
School: social welfare hostel
Place: Vikarabad
Time – 11:45 to 2:30
Members: Geetha, Shalini, Sagar, Prashanthi
Academic counselor: Ram Srinivas
Date: 14th August, 2011
Experience: The team started the workshop with the introduction of the students and their dreams. The career workshop was started with DRP strategy. Dream, Respect, and Plan phase. The student was asked
• Their dream
• The reason for their dream
• The importance of that career
• The daily activity of the profession
After having completed asking the questions. We started the respect phase in the workshop. As decided we wanted it to be interactive. So the students were asked to tell the different careers in their village that are very important in such a way that they should understand the dignity of labour. And to make them realize that no dream is low. The students started explaining about different careers and roles in the village without which the people cannot live. They told varied careers like sarpanch, ward members, doctor, nurse, teacher, anganwadi school teacher, barber, mason, construction worker, School HM, Peon, potter, Tailor etc.
The students were interactive and responded well. The plan phase started by beginning the information part and by exposing all the different possible career options available for them by the academic counselor.
The students asked lot of doubts and that was very clear that such a question session was never seen in any of the career workshops ever happened. Students had the vague idea of most of the careers but had no detailed idea of what it is like, what are its responsibilities, what are its job opportunities etc.
The students were given three prizes for those who were disciplined and participated in the career workshop with interest and discipline.
CASE STUDIES:
A student named bhaskar of 10th standard who was a kind of introvert, and was not interested to answer and participate in the session slowly changed. Till the end of the session, he gathered confidence and started asking questions and then at last he himself volunteered to say the vote of thanks for Nirmaan Team. He accepted and explained that he tried to beat the fear and had come to speak in front of everybody. This was the first success in the workshop.
There was one child who had a deep impression that to get into any of the sports academy, what matters is money that he lacks. It took really long to convince him that beyond the finance or any other external factor, what matters is the innate and genuine talent.

Careers chosen:

The points to be noted:
An academic counselor is of great need in any career workshop
The effect of CW is different in different types of schools such as welfare hostels, ZPHS, KGBV
The time management of the flow of events in CW must be maintained.
The children were very receptive and equally enthusiastic to know. This was the first time, conducting a workshop in a welfare hostel and we left the hostel with an extremely feel good experience.
